How To Reboot Unsuccessful Leadership Outcomes
December 2, 2024I’m reminded of that occasion, as I read comments by women about MasterChef Judge Gregg Wallace. Come on ladies. If you’re going to work with successful men you have to develop a thick skin. A few words don’t hurt anyone. Judge Greg isn’t reported to have assaulted anyone. I had to handle a few of those, as well as hard words to hear. Deal with it, and move on. Don’t hang on to it forever. Its not worth it.
Working as an Investment Banker, in a high testosterone environment, I met a Director outside of the office. He was talking about our work there, and came out with the remark, I had ‘more balls on me than a Christmas tree. You really give those men a run for their money’.
I must admit I was a bit taken aback. Was it a compliment, or an insult? Ah well. It doesn’t matter. He didn’t have any animosity towards me, and I was just doing my job. Not taking any **** from anyone, colleagues, or clients. Now I find it quite amusing. Of course, at the time, there wasn’t a lot of fun surviving in a hard hitting environment every day. It felt like going to work, was like joining a rugby scrum. Extremely competitive, hard hitting, and strong pressure to perform.
When the going gets tough, the tough gets going they say. That’s me. I don’t give up, don’t give in, keep digging deep, to find the way to be successful. This is what I bring to you, my clients.
I’m not a tough mannish woman. I simply stand my feminine ground, work harder, and act professionally. It works. Got plenty of promotions by hustling for banking business, and firmly dealt with ‘events’ that weren’t very nice. My old boss from that time, and his wife, are still friends. We thoroughly enjoy a good whisky or two together, and share good times.
Life is a challenge if you’re willing to live ‘full on’, give it your all, and handle whatever comes your way. Challenges are there to learn from, and to overcome. They make you a stronger person.
What I can do in coaching you, is get things in perspective, help you fight back if you need to, in subtle and unsubtle ways, depending on whats appropriate. Invent new ways to find your way around obstacles. Keep your eyes on the end prize. My clients get their power back, and come back stronger, to push forward from whatever stressful place they want to overcome.
Contact me for some ballsy executive coaching. If you need lower key coaching, that’s good too.
